Most content programmes fail for one of two reasons: they publish against demand that does not exist, or they publish several pages against the same intent and split their own authority. Both are preventable before a word is written.
Keyword tools report estimates, and in smaller markets those estimates can be badly wrong. A working example from our own data: a tool reported one term at over 40,000 monthly searches with low difficulty. Cross-checked against Google Trends for the same market and period, the term registered effectively zero, while the category’s actual head term registered clearly. Building a content cluster on that first number would have wasted months.
So every keyword set we act on is cross-checked against an independent source before it enters a plan. It costs a day and it has saved entire quarters.
| Symptom | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Several pages hovering just outside page one for the same query | Cannibalisation | Consolidate into one strong page, redirect the rest |
| Traffic rising, leads flat | Content targets informational intent only | Build the commercial layer |
| High rankings, low clicks | Title and description mismatch | Rewrite for the query, not for the brand |
| Nothing ranks despite volume | Weak site authority relative to the target | Start on lower-difficulty terms and build up |
Content that gets cited by generative engines shares a shape: the claim arrives in the first two sentences, evidence is specific and attributable, structure is clean, and each page covers exactly one idea. Long throat-clearing introductions and vague qualifiers are not merely bad writing — they make a passage unusable to a system trying to quote you.
The practical rule we apply: if a paragraph cannot be lifted out and still make sense, rewrite it.
| Phase | Work | You receive |
|---|---|---|
| Weeks 1–2 Baseline |
Technical audit, competitor analysis, keyword difficulty scoring, AI visibility baseline | Current-state report and a scored, feasible target list |
| Weeks 3–4 Foundations |
Indexation, speed, URL structure, schema, entity markup, internal linking | A site that meets the technical bar |
| Months 2–3 Content |
Content map, new pages, rewrites aligned to real search intent | Long-tail queries start ranking |
| Months 3–6 Authority |
Digital PR, third-party citations, entity consolidation | Head terms move into the top 10–20; AI mentions begin |
| Month 6+ Conversion |
Landing page optimisation, call and form tracking | Reporting on leads, not just rankings |
Fewer, better pages beat volume in nearly every case we have measured. A focused cluster of 10–15 strong pages outperforms 100 thin ones.
It can draft. It cannot supply original data, first-hand experience or a point of view — and those are precisely what makes a page worth citing. We use AI to accelerate, never to author unsupervised.
A keyword-to-URL map agreed before writing, and a periodic scan across the existing library. On one recent audit that scan surfaced 15 duplicate-intent pairs on a site nobody realised had them.
Our team, briefed with your subject-matter input. For technical and regulated categories, expert review before publication is non-negotiable.
